LAKE CITY – The Olustee Creek Bridge on County Road 245 (Price Creek Road) in southeastern Columbia County was reopened to traffic yesterday after a nine-month closure to replace the bridge.
The timber bridge was replaced with a concrete structure at a cost of $3 million using federal bridge replacement funds and oversight by the Florida FDOT.
Minor work remains on the project site but the contractor, Leware Construction Co. from Leesburg, was able to complete the work about three months ahead of schedule. A six-mile long detour allowed the contractor to accelerate the work during the closure.
The new bridge has two 12-foot travel lanes and 8-foot wide emergency shoulders replacing the timber bridge, built in the 1950s with 10-foot wide lanes.
